Wolves of Wall Street

Under cover of the public outrage over their grossly unpopular multitrillion-dollar job-killing giveaway of our tax dollars to the rich, Senate Republicans have quietly moved to deregulate Wall Street and consumer finance.

The bill, called the “Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act,” would threaten the stability of working people’s jobs, homes and live savings.

The bill is dangerous because it allows bankers to speculate with taxpayer-backed funds in risky financial markets and it weakens protections against predatory and unaffordable mortgage lending, like the deals that blew up the American economy and hurt millions of Americans in 2008.

Instead of unleashing the wolves of Wall Street, which always turn and bite regular Americans, Congress should find ways to make finance serve the American people.
