As GOP politicians hustle for more giveaways for corporations and the rich, working-family leader Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) has advanced a real solution to America’s tough problems. Murray introduced Senate Bill 2143, known as the WAGE Act, to put America on the path toward long-term broadly shared prosperity by strengthening worker freedoms.
Unionism is American
America’s labor movement thanks Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) for introducing the WAGE Act, which would:
- Bring new and stronger penalties for companies that violate basic workplace freedoms.
- Make the process of new unions winning a first contract fairer.
- Broaden the scope of workplace freedoms to include more workers.
- Provide more protections for immigrant workers.
Workplace freedoms arise from fundamental American values, including the freedoms of speech and assembly. Workers in unions balance the American economy just as the three branches of the federal government balance each other. Unionism is American.
