Gianforte runs away from court appearance

Instead of taking responsibility for his actions and appearing in court, Representative-elect Greg Gianforte is looking to settle with Ben Jacobs (the reporter he assaulted) out-of-court. Gianforte has avoided appearing in court for weeks now, despite taking the time to file for re-election.

Republican congressman-elect Greg Gianforte has filed an extension to push back the date he must appear in Gallatin County Justice Court on misdemeanor assault charges stemming from an election-eve altercation with a reporter.

The court document said “the parties are currently exploring a settlement” of the case and that the extension was not opposed by the state.

Gianforte has asked for another two weeks, and a specific court date has not been set.

…Gianforte was cited for misdemeanor assault, punishable by up to six months in jail and a $500 fine … – The Missoulian

We’re sure Gianforte will be more than happy to write a check instead of showing up in court. That’s what you get with an out-of-touch millionaire who bought his Congressional seat.
