There are millions of families who soon could have their health care taken away from them by out-of-touch members of Congress.
Last night, Republican leaders in the Senate began to move on their efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The good news is Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and extremist Republicans barely got enough votes to begin the process of repeal. Some Republican senators are rightly concerned that their colleagues are moving toward repeal without having a plan to replace the health care millions of people will lose if the ACA is dismantled.
But we need to keep the pressure up if we’re going to stop this attack on our health care.
The petition to your members of Congress says the following:
I’m calling on you to oppose repeal of the Affordable Care Act—that will strip coverage from more than 30 million Americans—without a plan for replacement, so millions of families aren’t left without health care.
The decision to repeal the ACA is literally a life and death issue for many families. More than 30 million people now have health insurance since the law passed, and it’s estimated that the law has saved around 50,000 lives.
Not to mention that it ended the egregious practice from insurance companies of denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, allowed young adults to stay on their parents’ insurance for longer, and stopped health insurers from discriminating against women and charging them more for coverage.
House Speaker Paul Ryan, McConnell and extreme Republican legislators in Congress want to take that all away and risk the lives of millions of people in the process. It’s not a done deal, though, and we need to act right now by putting pressure on your members of Congress to do the right thing.
